Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for spraying my furniture?
The process starts with us removing all of the doors and drawer fronts to take back to our workshop. We will return usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday to mask up, prepare and spray the fixed parts of the furniture. This is the only day you will be unable to access this room. Once we have packed up for the day we do recommend you avoid the room for the rest of the evening. We return and refit your doors and drawer fronts usually on a Friday. By this time the paint has usually had enough curing time to be able to use the furniture.
Are our pets/children ok in the house during the process?
Depending on which products you have specified for your furniture re-spray your pets and children would be best off not being present during the spraying process. If it’s possible for the home to be clear of pets and children during the on-site spray day this would be the best option, however, we understand this is not always possible and would request you retreat to the furthest room away from the area where the spraying will take place. Once the furniture spraying is complete the room should be avoided for the rest of that day but will then be safe to use the following morning onwards.
What types of furniture can you spray?
We are able to spray most types of built-in furniture including solid woods such as oak or tulip as well as melamine, chipboard and most often MDF. We use a substrate suitable primer which promotes addition to the surface and provides the perfect base for our topcoats.
The majority of our joinery spraying tends to be MDF wardrobes or Media Units. We are also able to spray individual freestanding items of furniture such as dressers, tables and chairs and so on.
What are the benefits of joinery and furniture spraying / painting?
Having your bespoke furniture sprayed enables you to have a factory-level finish on a custom-made piece of furniture. This gives you almost unlimited customisation that you will not get anywhere else off the shelf.
We also have unlimited colour options, from designer brand matches such as Farrow and Ball, Little Greene Co and Laura Ashley to standard paint brands such as Dulux. We also have multiple finish options available – from 5% sheen (dead flat matte) all the way up to 90% sheen (wet look gloss) with everything between including the most popular 10% (matte) and 30% (satin).
Do we need to have decorating / flooring completed first?
When having your bespoke joinery sprayed we recommend that any building works such as flooring are completed first. We are then able to mask up and protect the surrounding areas avoiding any damage or touch-ups throughout your project.
We do recommend that the painting of ceilings and walls is completed either way in advance of our arrival or after the joinery has been sprayed. This is due to the masking tape used to protect the surfaces. If going onto freshly painted walls that haven’t fully cured it can pull the paint off when de-masking. This is something that can happen on walls in general if the plaster wasn’t originally mist coated or there is some dampness. Whilst we use low tack tapes we do advise you allow for a small number of touch-ins to the walls directly against the edges of the unit.
Can we have more than one colour?
Yes – A dual-colour design is where there are two colours used on the same project. This is most often used in kitchens were the main cabinets will be one colour and the kitchen island another. Sometimes this can be the top wall fitted cabinets are single colour and the floor standing cabinets a different colour. There is a small additional charge for this.
How long does it take for the paint to dry?
The paint is often touched dry before we have finished clearing it up. However, we would usually recommend allowing a couple of days for the paint to cure and fully harden before putting items back onto shelves or clothes into wardrobes etc.
